Capture and compare before-and-after antenna measurements.
Before you begin
Prerequisites
- A safe, accessible antenna system
- Knowledge of the measurement instrument and the antenna frequency range
What you need
- NanoVNA or antenna analyzer
- Known-good coax/adapters and calibration kit
- A notebook or saved traces
Work through the steps
Use the checks as a personal or mentor-led review. You can print this page and mark each one as you go.
Make the system safe
Disconnect transmitters and powered equipment. Check physical clearance, weather and nearby utilities; do not climb or adjust hazardous installations.
Verify: The line under test is isolated from transmitters and power.
Calibrate
Set an appropriate frequency span and calibrate at the desired reference plane using the instrument procedure.
Verify: You know which adapters and feedline are included in the measurement.
Measure a baseline
Record the minimum-SWR frequency and relevant trace or readings without changing the setup.
Verify: You saved the frequency span, setup and initial measurement.
Change one variable
If safe, make a small controlled change, then repeat the same calibrated measurement and compare.
Verify: You can state what changed, what stayed constant, and whether the result improved.
Safety and operating limits
- Never connect an analyzer to a live transmitter or energized feedline.
- Keep antennas and tools away from power lines; consult qualified help for elevated installations.
- Observe applicable RF exposure and electrical safety requirements before transmitting.
Trusted starting references
Read how the software connects to a compatible analyzer, displays measurements and saves them for comparison. Follow the calibration instructions for your instrument.

Where to go next
Use the measured data to plan a documented antenna experiment in the Workbench.
